Grade 10 academic English is the year the work stops being about whether you understood and starts being about whether you can prove it. By June you will be able to:
Read a text you have never seen and build an argument about it — with evidence chosen rather than found, and an objection answered.
Write an essay that a reader follows without effort, because the paragraphs are ordered and the sentences are made rather than assembled.
Hold your own in a seminar — the kind where you have to have read the thing, and where somebody will disagree with you in front of everybody.
Take a media text apart and say what it is doing to its audience, including the ones you enjoy.
Write the literacy test without being surprised by it, because you will have practised its forms deliberately.
